University of Texas of the Rio Grande Valley Online MSW Program

The University of Texas of the Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) offers an entirely online Advanced Standing MSW program with concentrations in Administration and Community Practice and Direct Practice with Latino Individuals, Families and Groups. UTRGV’s online MSW Advanced Standing program can be completed in as few as 12 months and classes are held in seven-week semesters. Classes are delivered entirely online, though students are required to fulfill 500 hours of field work in a relevant practicum experience. The Advanced Standing (online accelerated) track is designed for students who have already completed a BSW from a CSWE accredited program.

As the second largest Hispanic-serving institution in the nation, UTRGV’s MSW coursework is uniquely designed to equip students with the skills to work with Latino populations.

Students in the program complete coursework in the following areas:

  • UTRGV MS in Social Work – Administration and Community Practice
  • The UTRGV MS in Social Work – Direct Practice with Latino Individuals, Families and Groups

The advanced standing online MSW track is composed of 33 credits, broken down into 27 credits of academic classes and 6 credits (500 hours) of field practicum. Advanced standing students can complete the program in 12 months and classes are held in seven-week sessions.

The University of Texas of the Rio Grande Valley’s Master of Science of Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
